Preparing for the Bridegroom - Spring Tea

31 May was the chosen afternoon for our PWOC "spring" Tea. Our theme was Preparing for the Bridegroom. We fondly remembered those things we did in prep for our weddings and marriages. The discussion was fun! Several mentioned learning what they could about the military lifestyle as they were about to become military spouses. WOW - I hadn't thought of that and it tied in with how we can spiritually prepare for our Spiritual bridegroom. We can learn about his lifestyle, study how we can be fit to help etc. We then talked about having a Tryst - "a secret, arranged meeting between lovers"; instead of a "spiritual discipline".

Vera & Debbie did all the set up. Everything was so pretty. Vera invited us into her lovely home.

Yolanda, made the elegant flower arrangements....and we all brought finger foods to add to the scones, crackers, cookies and drinks that Vera and Debbie had provided.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to see this little lady. I knew she would be the perfect hostess gift for Vera. She says "ready for love" and we talked about being ready to receive and give love to our Bridegroom. My children thought it was inappropriate for Miss Vera....but she seemed to love it.

I loved how God worked out the Tryst Journal doorprizes. Laura (nearly 20), Yolanda (30's?), and Evelyn (older than 30) all won.....isn't that great? Trish, a friend from a former assignment had made them for doorprizes.

If you missed this event, be sure to join us in the future!

July's Newsletter

Hello Friends,

I miss seeing so many of you weekly. Here is the latest news for you to enjoy. Much of it has been in the Protestant News….some has not.

BETH MOORE IS COMING!
Heights Baptist Church is hosting a Simulcast of Living Proof Live from Kentucky. The event will be on 1 – 2 August. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling either Linda or Lori at 224-8222. More info is available here Or on the PWOC blog.

If you would like to attend with any others going from PWOC, email me and I’ll try to connect you. If you need a ride, email.

PROJECT NIGHTS
We will NOT be having project night this Friday. I will be out of town and Debbie is ill (prayers appreciated). We will not have project night in August – but will resume in September.

FAREWELL GIFTS/ASSEMBLY NIGHT
Ladies, if you have a recipe to include for the farewell gift we are making for members would you please email those to me at gafbpwocpres@yahoo.com You may also give hard copies of your recipes to Vera at the 10:00 service.

We will meet on Friday, 25 July at 5 p.m. to assemble the gifts. We will provide a quick dinner.

If you have 6 x 6 page protectors (with a hole for a ring), stickers, cardstock, stamps, scrapbooking paper etc that you’d like to donate for use in assembling the gifts….bring them that night. If you plan on donating page protectors please let De’Etta know so that she doesn’t purchase more than we need. Watch the Protestant News for more details…or for latest breaking news check out the PWOC blog.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE – Grapevine, TX
13 – 16 November. We will be taking a group. Here’s a link for more info. http://www.pwoconline.org/ConferencesTraining/FF/FFHome.html I also hope to get a little promotional clip up on the PWOC blog before I leave for the weekend. It’s not too early to begin saving time and pennies.

Central Region Website
Some of you know that I’ve been designated the Central Region Web Weaver. What this means is that I channel info from all the installations in our region to the International website. The website is in a state of flux…if you go here and click on “recent events” or “sharing in the heartland” you’ll see slide shows and photos from recent events around the region….and um…since I AM the central web weaver you will find Goodfellow featured quite prominently. I’ll be making contacts at Leadership Weekend this weekend and hope to have more installations represented soon. The photos of Rachel with her pink princess cowboy hat would be so COOL….but I won’t post them to the website or blog without your approval, dear Rachel.

PWOC BLOG?
Glad you asked. This has been in the works for a long time. I was given approval and set up a Goodfellow PWOC blog yesterday.Check it out. Feel free to email me with ideas, questions etc. If news pops up (like the Beth Moore thing) it will STILL be in the Protestant News, it will still be in the newsletter but it may be on the blog first. LOL The blog will have our newsletters, photos of events, devotionals, info about future events…. Visit it, comment, check it out – you’ll be pleased…I think. The internet appeals to the younger generation as a way of gathering info. I hope that this will also be a way that ladies moving here will find out about us before they arrive. I JUST began adding things yesterday – so check back often. Soon, I’ll have photos and a blurb about our trip to Fredericksburg on the blog. If you want a table of contents – check the right column where you’ll see “our pages”….click on past events or whatever you are looking for. LOL

I would love to have you share YOUR favorite PWOC Memory, a devotional, a tip or recipe.....contact me at gafbpwocpres@yahoo.com if you would like to submit blog entries.

Enjoy the “lazy days of summer”. I look forward to visiting with you this summer and joining up again for Bible Study in the fall. BTW, our study books for next year are trickling in. Debbie has some great plans for events…..it promises to be a fun year at PWOC.

BOAST IN CHRIST

“But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
Gal 6:14

“Thus says the Lord, ‘Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindess, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,’ declares the Lord”. Jer 9:23-24

I’m writing today’s devotional from the USO at DFW International. I’m going to keep this sweet and to the point. I’ll figure out how to upload it later. ::snort:

I love these verses. They call me to evaluate that in which I “boast, exult, glory”. I’m commanded to boast in the cross of Christ – in the knowledge that I understand God (which would never happen without the infilling of His Holy Spirit) and that I know (am intimate with) God. God delights in me boasting in HIM, his cross, my relationship with Him. Did you catch that? Father/Lord/Lover delights in me bragging on Him. Oh yeah – it’s more than bragging but the concept causes me to humbly worship Him. What a God we serve.

Are you ready for some random thoughts I’ve mulled over this week? They’ll not be flowery – this setting is too busy for THAT.

~Whenever I feel qualified to do something for the kingdom, I realize that I’m putting my dependence in ME and not in Him. I can easily begin to boast in my skills, knowledge, expertise and get off-kilter.

~I am NOT to boast or glory in my wisdom, my strength, my riches or ability to make money, my family, my homeschooling, my accomplishments….I’m to boast in HIM….His care, His provision, His strength…

~Enjoying a sense of joy at a job well done is not pride or the boasting we see in these verses.

~Because of Christ, the world (world’s order, sin nature) is crucified to me. I’m crucified to the world. I’m not to try to balance sin with righteousness – I’m to crucify it.

If I were home, I’d find the lyrics for this song to share….it’s a favorite of mine. I’ve found myself humming it repeatedly after reading the above verses this week. My paraphrase of the lyrics…

“In Christ alone
I place my trust
and find my glory in the glory of the cross
In every victory
let it be said of me
my source of trust
my source of strength
is Christ Alone.”

(Oops I was singing along and garnered a “look”). ::snort::

What are you boasting in this week? Are you depending on Christ or yourself? He never fails me….I often fail myself and others.

Welcome! 1

We are in the process of setting up our blog. Check back frequently to see changes.

In the next few days more devotionals, more blurbs and photos of past events, graphics for the devotional et al pages, and more announcements will be added.

For the time being, please tell us what you think? Are there things you would like to see added?

And vote to the right - which post divider do you like - a lily or the garden bench? The lily (both here and in the header) is from the International Water Lily Collection which our PWOC has visited several times. These are photos I took on our PWOC outings. Thus, it reminds us of our city and of our outings. The garden bench reminds me of the garden trysts we long for with the lover of our souls. Thus, it has PWOC meaning too.

Yes - I have more plans.....but I'd love to hear your plans as well.

2009/2010 Verse

"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy."

Secret Sister Summer

For the summer, we exchanged cards in order to pray for one another and to anonymously encourage one another.

Please lift your Secret Sister up in prayer daily. Feel free to send her cards, verses, funnies, whatever the Lord moves you to do. But remember... Keep it anonymous!

At the Fall Kick-off we will find out who are Secret Sisters are so we can thank them and follow up on those goals and prayers!

"My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God's grace for you. Stand firm in this grace." 1 Peter 5v12

Note from Christina on June 9~
Hello Sweet Sisters!

How is your summer going so far? Are you finding sweet notes of hope and love from your Secret Sister? Are you remembering to share hope and love with your Secret Sister? Here we are, already into June. This summer will fly by before we know it, and yet the time will have been mostly separated from our Sisters! Remember to lift her up in your prayers, and as time allows, please try to send her a token of your love in Christ for her!

God bless you, Ladies! Our Lord is moving within our group! See you all, very very soon!
